Switzerland’s opening 2022 FIFA World Cup match will take place against Cameroon at the Al Janoub Stadium on Thursday. The A-Team had an outstanding qualifying season, going unbeaten in eight games and topping the group standings with 18 points. Their most recent friendly match ended in a 2-0 loss to Ghana, and they will be hoping to improve upon that performance tonight.
In the World Cup group stages of 2018, Switzerland was undefeated; this year, they hope to repeat that feat.
Cameroon also did well in their World Cup qualifying matches, beating Ivory Coast 1-0 to take first place in their group. Then, in the playoffs, they faced Algeria, defeating them in a two-legged match on away goals. The African team hopes for better fortune this time around after losing in the group stages in each of their previous five World Cup appearances.
