General Qamar Javed Bajwa Appointed as 16th Army Chief of Pakistan

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif done the most awaited decision on Saturday morning and picked up the General Qamar Javed Bajwa as the 16th Army Chief (Chief of Army Staff – COAS).

The selection of new Chief leads to an end after gone through many rumors and severe hearsay.

While another appointment of General Zubair Mahmood Hayat has also been take place for the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC). Incumbent CJCSC General Rashad Mahmood is also set to retire on November 29.
Both the Generals would hold the charge of their posts on Tuesday, 29 November 2016 when the current Chief of Army Staff will retire.

President Mamnoon Hussain made the appointment of both Lt. Generals and promoted them the rank of four stars Generals on the guidance of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Both Generals had held the meeting with the Prime Minister previously and took congratulations from the side of Prime Minister for their assignation.

General Qamar Bajwa

General Qamar Bajwa is one of the most qualified man for the post. He was commissioned in 16 Baloch Regiment on 24 October 1980. His Alma mater includes are the graduation from Canadian forces Command and Staff College, Toronto, Naval Postgraduate University, Monterrey USA and National Defense University, Islamabad.

He has also been served as an instructor at School Of Infantry and Tactics, Quetta and Command and Staff College, Quetta. And also been a part of Infantry Bridge and Chief of Staff of Rawalpindi Corps as a Brigade Major.

Gen Bajwa has extensive experience of handling affairs in Kashmir and Northern Areas of the state. He also served the humanity with a United Nations mission in Congo as a brigade Commander. His recent serving was as an Inspector General Training and Evaluation at General Head Quarter (GHQ), Rawalpindi.

The other names for the post in contention were Lt Javed Iqbal Ramday and Lt Gen Ishfaq Nadeem. All of four generals belong to PMA’s 62nd long course, but all have had different carrier trajectories.

All of the generals are from the senior-most category of generals and Gen Bajwa was on the 4th position on the supremacy basis. The decision has been done by mutual considerations of Prime Minister and current Army Chief.

On the other hand, Gen Zubair Hayat is also the most accurate choice for his newly appointed designation. He is graduated from Command and Staff College Camberley, United Kingdom, and National Defense University Islamabad.

Gen Hayat served through several key posts throughout his brilliant career. He served as General Officer Commanding Sialkot and led Staff Duties Directorate as a Major General.

Later, Hayat was appointed as the director general of the Strategic Plans Divisions in December 2013 after his promotion as a Lt Gen. his current servings are as a Chief of General Staff.

Gen Hayat’s previous career record and achievements in the post makes him the most suitable personality for the post CJCSC. He is commonly known as workaholic person in his staff and considers him as to be the tiger of paper work.

Defense minister Khawaja Asif cheers the new Army Chief and praise him by good wishes and saying,

“The military policy would continue and there would be no immediate change in it.”

“The legacy of Gen Raheel Sharif would remain continue in the light of the examples he set”, Khawaja Asif added.

The whole nation congratulates and welcomes Gen Bajwa as new Army Chief and Gen Hayat for the post of CJCSC.

The high point in his occupancy was the start of operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan and fight against terror campaign. He also plays a vital role in bringing back the peace and calm of distorted cities like Karachi.
